IELTS LISTENING TEST HINTS

IELTS LISTENING TEST HINTS

BE READY TO LISTEN

Remember that the listening part of the IELTS test is the same for Academic and General Training Module candidates.

IELTS LISTENING
IELTS Listening

In the IELTS listening test, there are 4 sections, and each is treated separately and played once only. The moment you hear the words "Section 1", "Section 2" etc. you should:

• be prepared and ready to listen for the instructions that are given
• listen for details about the information contained in the coming passage, (e.g. who? what? where? when? why?)

👉 How to prepare for IELTS Listening test?

First, check where the questions are located on the pages in the section to be heard.
In the short time given to you before the listening passage begins, which is usually only about ten, twenty or thirty seconds at most, you should do your best to predict what you will hear.

When the conversation, interview or lecture begins,
the first item to listen for is the example.

Sometimes, the example is heard first and then again when the passage is played in full; in other IELTS Listening Tests, it is heard once only.

Numbers in IELTS listening exam
Numbers in IELTS listening exam

Numbers in IELTS exam is so important, particularly in the IELTS listening section.

IELTS listening is one of the four sections of the IELTS exam along with Reading, Speaking, and Writing sections.

Here are a video containing a practice on numbers in IELTS exam, listen carefully and try to guess.

Numbers in the IELTS exam

You need to master "the numbers in English" to be able to score a band 7+ in the IELTS exam.

Mostly, you will use the numbers in the IELTS listening section as well as the IELTS speaking section.

You will hear different pure complex numbers as passport number, age, birth date as 826312, 1929, 138534, 123976, 2013, 3 and a half, 15.5, 1845, 1993 or mixed with letters as street numbers or telephone number as 15A, 53d, 26n3u42v.

Listen to the above video and test your self to guess the numbers and save our site for more videos and IELTS material.

Structure of the IELTS listening section

First of all, the structure of the listening section is the same for the academic and general modules.

It takes 40 minutes and consists of four parts:
  1. The first part comes in the form of a conversation between two people, usually, someone tries to book a date or buy some items.
In this part, you will hear one or two numbers and try to guess them, maybe a phone number, street number, or a year "1992, 2001, etc.".
  2. In the second part, there is a monologue from one person to a group of people trying to explain a map or speaking about something.
  3. The third part of the IELTS exam is a dialogue, usually between two students or between a student and tutor, and here also you can hear some numbers.
  4. The fourth part is a monologue in academic vocabulary, usually a professor speaking to his colleges about an academic topic as agriculture, fishing, or ancient civilization.

Improve your listening skills

It is important to listen to many English conversations for long times through youtube videos, podcasts, and audible books.
The more you listen to native English conversations, the more accuracy in your listening and accent.

Also, improve your listening by speaking with native English people. You can do this for free on italki.
